The venerable Honda Civic is #1 on Car and Driver’s Best Compact Cars list and #2 in the U.S. News’ Best Compact Cars. It’s practical, spacious, and fun to drive. The 2025 model year adds a Civic Hybrid option to the lineup.
Engine Options and Performance
The 2025 Honda Civic lineup starts with the LX and Sport, both powered by a 158-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, front-wheel drive, and a CVT.
New this year, the Civic Hybrid models (Sport Hybrid and Touring Hybrid) use a 2.0-liter engine paired with two electric motors, delivering a combined 200 hp and 232 lb-ft of torque with front-wheel drive.
Regenerative braking comes standard. Only the performance-focused Civic Si and Type R offer a crisp-shifting 6-speed manual transmission, with the Type R maintaining top power for the serious enthusiast.

Ride and Handling
The 2025 Honda Civic keeps its reputation for a balanced, comfortable ride with responsive handling. Its nimble feel, precise steering, and composed suspension make it enjoyable for daily driving and highway cruising alike.
Even the base models feel agile and controlled, while the Civic Si and Type R add an extra edge for those who want a sportier experience.
Fuel Economy
The non-hybrid variants get up to 32 mpg city, 41 mpg highway, and 36 mpg combined, while the Sport trim achieves 31 mpg city, 39 mpg highway, and 34 mpg combined.
The Civic Hybrid models are rated at 50 mpg city, 47 mpg highway, and 49 mpg combined, which is comparable to its peers like the hybrid Toyota Corolla and Hyundai Elantra.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The new Civic’s interior is practical and comfortable, seating five with ample rear space for two adults. The clean, modern cabin design includes a honeycomb-pattern dashboard that hides the air vents.
Heated seats, a sunroof, and dual-zone climate control are standard on all models, which is a plus because you’ll have to pay more to get these features in other cars.
Storage is smartly laid out, with a wide center console and a large bin near the shifter for essentials. The sedan’s trunk is spacious, and the hatchback provides even more room.
Visibility is clear, thanks to narrow roof pillars and door-mounted side mirrors, while a multi-angle rearview camera assists with rear views. The Civic’s interior is functional and thoughtfully designed for everyday use.
Infotainment & Tech Features
The LX and Sport models come with a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The Sport Touring Hybrid upgrades to a bigger 9-inch display with built-in Google features, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a 12-speaker Bose® sound system. This trim also includes a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster for easy viewing of driving info.
Safety Rating and Driver-Assist Features
The 2025 Civic is one of the safest choices in its class. It earned a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA while the previous 2024 Civic Sedan received a TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating from the IIHS.
Honda Sensing® is standard across all Civic trims, which includes a suite of driver-assist features such as:
-
collision mitigation braking
