When Honda introduced audiences to the all-new Honda Civic and also announce that the model would be getting a hatchback body style, along with the announcement that the Civic Type R would finally be coming stateside, it seemed clear that the identity of the Civic was being pivoted back towards the performance thrills it was once synonymous with. It appears this assumption has turned out to be correct, as Honda has now begun testing the Honda Civic Rallycross, for competition in the grueling and spectacular Red Bull Global Rallycross.

In this competition, the heavily modified Honda Civic coupe will seek glory against legends of the sport. Taking on the impressive all-wheel drive models will be no small feat for the Civic, which exists on a front-wheel drive platform for everyday drivers - no word yet on if this has been changed on the Rallycross model.

Regardless of the drive train, fans and spectators can expect the Civic to dazzle, with rumors of it pumping out over 600-horsepower, motorsports fans will surely want to keep an eye on this elite racer.

We'll get our first chance to see how the Civic holds up in competition, as it is set to make its debut on May 21st in the desert. But for drivers eager to experience the new Honda Civic, in its sedan form or in the forthcoming coupe model, come and see our team of Honda experts at Corwin Honda in Fargo, ND.
